In a statement, TMPC said the new investments will expand its press parts facility at its plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

TMP President Satoru Suzuki announced the new investment during the opening of the 1st Philippine Auto Parts Expo (PhilAPEX).

“Investments in new parts manufacturing capability constitute a significant portion of our investments. Our major localization projects will drive our goal of advancing Philippine manufacturing,” said Suzuki.

TMP previously announced a R3.2billion investment plan in June 2016 to comply with the requirements under CARS. The current increase in investment to R5.2 billion follows TMP’s decision to

Furthermore, TMP is localizing additional press parts on top of the 50% total body shell weight requirement under CARS.

TMP is pushing its body shell localization to 57% with the local production of side member panels, the largest press parts of a car. The acquisition of production capabilities for complex plastic parts like instrument panel and center console is ongoing. These localization projects were the highlight of TMP’s exhibit at the 1st PhilAPEX.

Co-presented by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and CARS-registered participants, the 1st PhilAPEX showcased new parts manufacturing capability that will be localized under CARS. In his keynote speech, DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said “there have been encouraging developments in the program, specifically in new parts making” and that these are the kinds of investments that the Philippines needs. Sec. Lopez concluded by saying that the benefits of the CARS program should cascade deeper into the SME sector and encourage more intensive B2B relationships between PCMs and local carmakers.

TMP’s showcase also featured parts projects of four suppliers that qualified under the CARS program as participating parts makers, namely Technol Eight Philip- pines Corporation, Toyota Boshoku Philippines Corporation, Manly Plastics, Inc. and Valerie Products Manufacturing, Inc.
