CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — Charges have been filed against six inmates who tried to escape from their detention cell at the Norzagaray Municipal Police Station (MPS) by assaulting a police officer last Sunday.

At the same time, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) ordered the chief of police of Norzagaray as well as two other officers on duty at the time of the foiled escape of the inmates relieved of their posts.

Based on the records of the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) and the National Police Commission (Napolcom), the inmates involved in the escape attempt last October 22 were Gerald Tupas Albau, Carlo Padua Sison, Richard Nicolas Llonador, Albert Unay Gatdula, Roy Agustin, and Rodrigo Manalastas.

Investigation showed that Police Officer 2 Rose Ann Berges Lamera, the duty jailer, had just given food to inmate Resty Cabacang and was about to close the detention cell when she was attacked by Albau, giving inmates Sison, Llonador, Gatdula, Agustin, and Manalastas an opportunity to escape from their cell.

At this juncture, PO2 Lamera cried for help and Senior Inspector Anthony Torres, PO2 Emerson Soriano and PO1 Malic, all duty personnel, came to her rescue and prevented the inmates from completing their escape.

Yesterday, Chief Superintendent Amador V. Corpus, PRO3 director, confirmed that he had relieved Supt. Angel L. Garcillano, Norzagaray MPS chief, PO2 Benjie Enconado and PO2 Lamera and reassigned them to the Bulacan Police Provincial Office Holding and Administration Unit (PHAU).
