Singing of ASEAN Hymn a must in Bohol

- By MINERVA BC NEWMAN

TAGBILARAN CITY – Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto has ordered the ASEAN Hymn sung in the province during the last two months of 2017.

“We will not allow the ASEAN to pass without the impact that we need. We will sing the ASEAN Hymn for the months of November and December after we sing the National Anthem and the Bohol Hymn,” Chatto said.

Government agencies and private institutions based in Bohol will be required to sing the anthem and the two hymns before the start of any official event, he said.

The governor was inspired to issue the directive as the Philippines hosts the ASEAN 50th founding anniversary and also because Bohol had been the venue of five ASEAN ministerial meetings for the last six months.

Chatto added he was impressed by the local Department of Education (DepEd) who has required school children to sing the ASEAN Hymn.

He asked DepEd and the Department of Interior and Local Government to make available resources which the towns can tap to snowball the singing of the hymn.

Chatto said the directive has been sent to all town mayors through Clarin Mayor Allen Ray Piezas who is also the president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Bohol chapter.

The Philippines is among the founding nations of the ASEAN that was organized in 1967. This week it is hosting the group’s golden anniversary.
