7 killed in holiday road accidents

Police and land transport authoritie­s are calling on motorists and travelers taking to the long roads stretching to the provinces this holiday week to take extra care as the number of people killed in traffic accidents since Sunday went up to seven.

In Nueva Vizcaya, the Land Transporta­tion Office (LTO) reported a collision between a truck and motorcycle along Maharlika Highway, Bonfal Proper, Bayombong town that resulted in the death of two people.

The Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the fatalities as Van P. Diclas, 22, single, the motorcycle driver, and Arlyn Uyaan, 22, a Nueva Vizcaya State University student.

LTO officers were watching the road when Diclas avoided them and came into the path of the Hino truck (WGQ-503) drivern by one Randy A. Bayas, 47.

In La Union, a car went out of control and crashed into a concrete fence and then a gmelina tree on the roadside in Barangay Rising, Bangar town at 8:45 p.m. Monday.

Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado Jr., La Union police informatio­n officer, said three of the five people aboard the Honda City (DU-6719) were killed – Mark Paul Paua, the driver; and his two passengers Scotch Paua, and Jalle Bachellar, all of legal agea and residents of Legazpi City, Albay.

Members of the La Union Rescue had a difficult time extracting the victims from the crumpled car but successful­ly rescued Arvin G. Victoria, 30, a seaman and resident of Dasmariñas City, Cavite, and Maricar A. Cabales, 23, student from Quezon City, alive. Both were taken to the hospital due to serious injuries.

Meanwhile in Cavite, Jeson De Leon Macatigbak, 23, and Dencel Roces, both residents of Rosario, died in after the motorcycle they were riding ramming into an oncoming dump truck on Bacao Road in General Trias City last Sunday.

Traffic investigat­ors said their Suzuki motorcycle (9055 NC) skidded along the road and collided head-on with the truck driven by Dennis Valderama Sta. Maria, 33. The victims and their motorbike were run over by the truck.

Down south in Virac, Catanduane­s, blood splattered on the national road in Barangay Calabnigan Monday night when an overloaded tricycle collided with a motorcycle.

Nine people were seriously injured in the accident that happened while the tricycle driven by Alex Bacay Abejo tried to overtake a container van and came head-on with the motorcycle driven by Loreto S. Sales.

Abejo’s wife, Mary Anne, was declared in critical condition and remained confined at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the deadly collision between a truck and two tricycles in Tanauan City, Batangas last Thursday which resulted in the death of four people claimed two more lives.

Juveline Kaye Castillo, 27, and Lalaine Gabriel, 49, succumbed to their injuries while confined at the CP Reyes Hospital in Tanauan, said Superinten­dent Renato Mercado.

The collision earlier claimed the lives of trike driver Raymond Llenado, 27; SPO3 Marqueses Valentino; Marbel Itoralde, 22; and Nanette Aton, 37. (With reports from Jinky Tabor and Lyka Manalo)
