PAGASA warns of floods due to rains

- By ELLALYN DE VERA-RUIZ

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday warned of possible flash floods or landslides over some parts of Luzon and Mindanao due to two rain-inducing weather systems prevailing over the country.

Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Masbate, Aurora, Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the tail-end of cold front, PAGASA said.

PAGASA said these areas could experience moderate to at times heavy rains, which may trigger flash floods or landslides over the low-lying and mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, a trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) could bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Compostela Valley, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, Bukidnon, Misamis Occidental, South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani.

There is also a possibility of flash floods or landslides over these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains due to the northeast monsoon or amihan.
