PRRD calls for vigilance amid new threat of attacks in public places

President Duterte has sounded the alarm of an imminent terror threat in the country where airports, ports, and other public places could be targets.

The President said he has called for an emergency meeting of concerned officials to address the latest security challenge, adding the threat was "coming in very fast."

"I’m also reminded of the serious threat now but I hope that you have to raise the awareness not only the senses of... and maybe just it’s good to anticipate that there’s gonna be one in the coming days about terrorism,” Duterte said during the launch of a new air traffic management system in Pasay City Tuesday.

"They’d like to blow up our people convergenc­e and also converge in

airports, pantalan, park because of what happened in the Mindanao provinces today. As I have said, we have the threat remaining," he said.

As he called for intensifie­d public vigilance, Duterte said he has ordered the military and police to give no quarter to the terrorists plotting against the country.

"My guidance to the security forces of government, the AFP and PNP, is that in this matter of security against terrorism, it will be no quarters asked, no quarters given," he said.

The President issued the warning of possible terror attacks as he highlighte­d the improved security condition in Mind- anao due to the martial law declaratio­n.

Martial law has been re-extended until December 31, 2018 in Mindanao supposedly due to the continued threat of terrorism and rebellion. It was first declared in May 2017 to quell the ASG/ Maute-led rebellion in Marawi City and extended until the end of 2017.
