- By LESLEY CAMINADE VESTIL

CEBU CITY – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-7) is monitoring intelligence reports that potent party drugs, also known as “zombie drugs” have already been smuggled to parts of Central Visayas.

PDEA-7 regional director Emerson Margate, in a media forum said, drug lords are inventing new drug formulas that are not included or listed in the law as illegal drugs so that they won’t be sanctioned when they are caught in possession or selling and using them.

“Mayroon pong ganung ginagawa ang mga drug lords, they try to manufacture ng mga substance na wala po sa batas, para kung mahuli sila, hindi sila mapaparusahan kasi wala ito ma include sa batas,” Margate explained.

Margate added that he fears that this kind of drugs (zombie drugs) might be used by or sold to millennials or the youth who are so curious and adventurous.

Margate warned that zombie drugs cause seizures and might lead to death.

Margate is asking other law enforcement agencies, the public and the parents to help the PDEA in preventing the entry and proliferation of the said drugs in the region.

He bared that during the Sinulog festivities, the PDEA will be conducting checkpoints in all entry points to Cebu, as well as in the vicinity of clubs and party areas.

Margate said it is not yet alarming as of this moment. We continue to monitor these kinds of drugs because these are very potent and dangerous to the brain.
