Toyota opens new vehicle logistics center
Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) continues to strengthen its operation with the inauguration of its R465-million Vehicle Logistics Center (VLC) as it starts local production of Vios, its entry model in the government-sponsored CARS (Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy) Program.
In a statement, TMP said that it invested R465 million for the construction of the VLC, which occupies a total area of 12.8 hectares located within the Toyota Special Economic Zone in Santa Rosa, Laguna ecozone in Laguna.
The VLC will substantially increase TMP’s vehicle stockyard capacity, as well as improve car carrier operations for its dealer network.
As a participant in the incentivized CARS Program, TMP is expected to start local assembly of its entry model Vios this year. Under the program, TMP is required to produce 200,000 units of Vios over a six-year period.
The opening of VLC also marked a major milestone for Toyota in the Philippines as the motor vehicle industry leader celebrates its 30th anniversary, starting the year by further solidifying its logistics operation.
“TMP intends to keep growing, so it is imperative that we continue to level up our operations. We need to always guarantee that our logistics facilities will be sufficient to serve our growing volume,” said TMP president Satoru Suzuki.
With technical know-how and support from Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan) and Toyota Daihatsu Engineering & Manufacturing Company (Thailand), the VLC project was completed with all safety targets achieved.
TMP’s investment of R465 million for the construction of VLC is a testament of Toyota’s continued collaboration with the government to sustain auto manufacturing in the country, said Suzuki.
