Ceres-Negros hammers Angkor of Cambodia, 9-0

- By JONAS TERRADO

Ceres-Negros delivered a record-equaling performance Tuesday night in thrashing Cambodian side Boeungket Angkor, 9-0, to open its Group F campaign in the AFC Cup on a fiery note amid rainy conditions at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.

Bievenido Maranon, Takumi Uesato and OJ Porteria produced two goals each as the Busmen made good use of the home-field advantage and the inclement weather to tie the most-lopsided victory in the history of the competition.

Uzbek club Nasaf Qarshi pummeled Indian side Dempo, 9-0, at the Marzakiy Stadium in Qarshi on April 27, 2011.

Carli de Murga and Manny Ott also found the back of the net while Boeungket defender Sun Sovanrithy scored an own goal while trying to clear the ball shortly before the hour mark as Ceres continued its form that was seen during last month's two victories in the AFC Champions League qualifiers.

It also gave the Busmen the early lead in Group F on goal difference. Singapore's Home United also won its opening assignment on the same day with a 1-0 result on Myanmar's Shan United in Yangon.

Ceres scored its first five goals in the first 30 minutes, with Uesato, a major addition from JPV-Marikina, and Maranon sharing the scoring duties and Porteria delivering a left-footed screamer.

Stephan Schrock and Mike Ott were also instrumental in setting up scoring chances for Ceres, leaving the visiting side clueless with its defensive adjustments.
