CAMP BANCASI, Butuan City – The trip to Hong Kong promised by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to a group of former New People’s Army (NPA) amazons will push through, according to Capt. Rodulfo Cordero Jr., Civil Military Operations (CMO) officer of the Army’s 401st Infantry (Unity) Brigade, on Sunday.

“The former NPA amazons already started processing their travel documents, including their respective passports,” Cordero disclosed.

But he did not bare the number of ex-NPAs who will travel to Hong Kong.

Cordero said these former amazons were from the Caraga region, Northern and Southern Mindanao regions.

“They were in the third batch that recently dined with the President in Malacanang,” the 401st CMO officer said.

They (former amazons) will leave when all the travel documents are completed and upon the “green light” from Malacañang, he added.

“Job opportunities also await them upon returning home,” he said.

A free training at the Technical Education, Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) will also be made available to them.

Some of the former NPA rebels may also join the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) or the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU), the 401st CMO officer said.

“These good opportunities are given to them for their voluntary surrender, as they believe the sincerity of the government’s peace and development program,” Cordero said.
