DASMARIÑAS, Cavite – A teenage boy was killed before dawn Sunday in a shootout with police who accosted him and his cousin for driving violations on Jose Abad Santos Avenue in this district.

A policeman was reportedly wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

A police report said that Sean Christian Cotacte Martinez, 14, a Grade VIII student, died on the spot from gunshot wounds to the body.

Recovered from Martinez were a .45 cal. pistol, and his Honda XRM motorcycle without license plates.

Wounded was PO1 Leo Taguinod Tallud, a police community operative.

Tallud was hit by a bullet fired by Martinez during the first burst of gunfire. He reportedly fired back, hitting Martinez.

Tallud was wounded in the right leg and was brought by his colleagues to De La Salle University Medical Center in Dasmariñas.

Martinez’s cousin Mark Gerald Orquillas Martinez, 15, a Grade IX student, gave up to PO1 Abdul Samad Salazar Daud, the lone companion of Tallud.

Chief Inspector Fermel V. de la Cruz, Dasmariñas police investigation chief, said Tallud was on patrol with Daud in a tricycle when they spotted the Martinezes on the motorcycle without license plate and its headlight off.

The officers flagged down the cousins.

When the motorcycle stopped, Sean Christian reportedly got off and fired at Tallud.
