I can’t be bothered, I’m a Pinoy

- By LEANDRO DD CORONEL

OUR country is torn between those who want to overhaul the whole political, social, and ideological system and those who want a more moderate pace of change.

Everybody must contribute to forging a system that will benefit all. But when you talk to people, you get a lot of the following:

Don’t bother me, I just want to get ahead in my profession. Don’t bother me, I’m a doctor. Don’t bother me, I’m a lawyer too busy lawyering in this litigious society.

Don’t bother me, I’m in showbiz and I have no time for anything else but wanting to be famous.

Don’t bother me, I’m a teacher and I only have time for lesson plans.

Don’t bother me, I’m an accountant and my boss is constantly breathing down my neck to meet deadlines.

Don’t bother me, I’m a call-center agent and my job doesn’t give me any free time to get involved in other things.

Don’t bother me, I’m a tricycle driver and I can hardly make both ends meet.

Don’t bother me, I’m a fish vendor and 24 hours aren’t enough to make a decent living.

Don’t bother me, I’m a street sweeper and I barely have time left for my kids.

Don’t bother me, I’m an architect and there’s just too much to do.

Don’t bother me, I’m an engineer and, like my friend the architect, there’s very little time left for anything else.

Don’t bother me, I’m a full-time mom and just looking after my children fills my whole day.

Don’t bother me, I’m my family’s breadwinner and I can’t catch up with what’s happening to my own country.

Don’t bother me, I’m an MMDA enforcer and my job is all I can accomplish in one day.

Don’t bother me, I’m a nurse and my work is nerve-wracking already as it is.

Don’t bother me, I’m a student and keeping up with my assignments alone stops me from being active in socio-political issues.

Don’t bother me, I’m a daily laborer and that alone keeps me away from home most of the time.

Don’t bother me, I’m a bank manager and that keeps me occupied already.

Don’t bother me, I’m a fish-ball vendor and I’m out in the street most of the time.

Don’t bother me, I’m a taho vendor and me and my fish-ball friend are out in the street practically the whole day.

Don’t bother me, I’m a factory worker and just being that keeps me busy the whole time.

Don’t bother me, I’m a mechanic and my work is so time-consuming.

Don’t bother me, I work at a casino and boy, that’s a full-time job!

Don’t bother me, I’m a chambermaid in a hotel and that’s my whole life right there.

Don’t bother me, I’m a salesgirl at the mall and I have no time for anything else.

Don’t bother me, I’m an STL collector and I’m out there all day looking for bettors.

Don’t bother me, I work at the municipio and I barely have any spare time.

Don’t bother me, I’m a security guard and I work a 24-hour shift.

Everybody’s busy. So who’s going to fight for our rights? You, yes you, what’s your excuse?
