Jan. 23 a special working holiday
President Duterte has declared January 23 every year a special working holiday in the entire country to commemorate the declaration of the First Philippine Republic.
Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) no. 11014, or “The First Philippine Republic Day Act,” on Thursday.
Based on the Republic Act, January 23 is declared a special working holiday in the entire country to commemorate the declaration of the First Philippine Republic on January 23, 1899 held at the Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan.
Under the new law, the National Historical Commission (NHC), in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd), are compelled to plan and implement activities for “The First Philippine Republic Day.”
