Comelec, PNP set revamp for May polls

CEBU – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) will reshuffle its personnel, particular­ly those with relatives who are candidates in the Barangay and Sanggunian­g Kabataan (SK) elections next month.

Central Visayas regional police director Chief Supt. Robert Quenery said the police will validate all its personnel and staff with relatives who have filed their ceritifica­tes of candidacy.

Quenery added the PNP will assign personnel with candidater­elatives in areas that could not have direct influence and partiality to the voters.

Quenery will likewise evaluate all chiefs of police in Central Visayas who stayed for a long time in certain municipali­ties or cities and have establishe­d strong links with politician­s.

While in the Comelec in the region will also do the same with its personnel.

Comelec-Central Visayas Director Rafael Olaño said he will also conduct an evaluation of election officers and provincial supervisor­s and find out if they have relatives who are candidates in the forthcomin­g elections.

According to Olano, election period is from April 14 to May 21, meaning the gun ban will be in effect during the said period.

Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10-26, the filing of candidacy is from April 14 to April 20 while the campaign period is from May 4 to May 12.
