Comelec, PNP set revamp for May polls

CEBU – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) will reshuffle its personnel, particularly those with relatives who are candidates in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections next month.

Central Visayas regional police director Chief Supt. Robert Quenery said the police will validate all its personnel and staff with relatives who have filed their ceritificates of candidacy.

Quenery added the PNP will assign personnel with candidaterelatives in areas that could not have direct influence and partiality to the voters.

Quenery will likewise evaluate all chiefs of police in Central Visayas who stayed for a long time in certain municipalities or cities and have established strong links with politicians.

While in the Comelec in the region will also do the same with its personnel.

Comelec-Central Visayas Director Rafael Olaño said he will also conduct an evaluation of election officers and provincial supervisors and find out if they have relatives who are candidates in the forthcoming elections.

According to Olano, election period is from April 14 to May 21, meaning the gun ban will be in effect during the said period.

Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10-26, the filing of candidacy is from April 14 to April 20 while the campaign period is from May 4 to May 12.
