Games Today (The Arena, San Juan City) 8 a.m. – UE vs NU (Men’s) 10 a.m. – FEU vs Adamson (Men’s) 2 p.m. – UE vs NU (Women’s) 4 p.m. – UST vs La Salle (Women’s)

Far Eastern University turned to Bernadeth Pons’ solid attacks in the crunch as it outlasted tough Adamson, 25-22, 25-27, 14-25, 25-22, 15-11, yesterday to clinch the third semifinal berth in UAAP women’s volleyball at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Pons scored four of the team’s last seven points as the Lady Tamaraws rallied from a 10-8 fifth-set deficit en route to their eighth win against four losses.

The victory not only handed FEU its fourth straight semifinal appearance but also avenged a four-set loss to Adamson in their first meeting last Feb. 10.

They joined La Salle and Ateneo in the next phase.

The 5-foot-7 Pons sizzled throughout the match, delivering 20 kills and two blocks to finish with 22 points.

FEU almost succumbed to 41 errors, including three straight that gave Adamson the second-set win. But the Lady Tamaraws regrouped and held on when it mattered most.

Overall, FEU leaned on 10 aces and 55 hits.

Adamson dropped to its seventh defeat against five wins, but still remained in tight contention for the remaining semis slot with La Salle and University of Santo Tomas still left in its elims schedule.
