Brgy chair shot dead while refusing to heed warrant

DAVAO CITY – An barangay chairman was shot dead inside his home by elements of the Criminal Investigat­ion and Detection Group (CIDG) after an exchange of gunfire, early morning yesterday, in Purok 4A, Barangay Pangyan, Calinan, this city.

Barangay Pangyan chairman Antonio Pardillas Guatno was killed in the reported shootout with lawmen who were trying to enforce a search warrant.

The search warrant, issued by Judge Emmanuel C. Carpio, Executive Judge of the Davao City Regional Trial Court, was for loose firearms which Guatno was reportedly keeping in his residence.

Police said Guatno leveled his gun at the raiding team, prompting the authoritie­s to gun down the suspect.

The suspect was immediatel­y rushed to Isaac T. Robillo Memorial Hospital but was declared dead onarrival.

Confiscate­d from the crime scene was a loaded caliber-.45 pistol.

Also found in Guatno’s residence was a caliber-9 mm pistol.

The operation was held in coordinati­on with the Department of Justice, CIDG 11 regional field unit, Regional Mobile Force Battalion, and the Calinan Police Station.
