Bishop Ongtioco oversees Malolos diocese
Pope Francis has appointed Diocese of Cubao Bishop Honesto F. Ongtioco as the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Malolos after it was declared “sede vacante” following the death of Malolos Bishop Jose T. Oliveros last week.
In a decree sent to Rev. Msgr. Pablo S. Legaspi Jr., Vicar-General of Malolos by Papal Nuncio Archbishop Gabrielle Caccia through his Charge d’ Affaires in Manila, Msgr. Arnaldo Catalan, said Bishop Ongtioco is to exercise his office as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Malolos “with all the faculties and rights to exercise the office of a diocesan bishop.”
In his new assignment, Ongtioco will oversee the Malolos diocese, which has 108 parishes and about 200 priests. Ninety four percent of its estimated three million population are Roman Catholics. (Christina I. Hermoso and Leslie Ann G. Aquino)
