CAMP ADDURU, Cagayan — The Police Provincial Office (PPO) is keeping an eye on developments in the municipality of Solana, where local police allegedly encountered armed political supporters of a losing barangay candidate hours after the elections closed last Tuesday.

It was learned that Solana Councilor Rudy Fernandez and supporters of Barangay Chairman Joel M. Alilam were allegedly demanding a recount at the Carilucud Elementary School at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday because the incumbent had lost.

A police team led by Solana chief of police, Senior Inspector Renz Marion Baloran, responded to the scene and pacified the parties.

However, as Baloran’s team left the school, they came under heavy fire at a roadblock in Barangay Gen. Balao. Police quickly got off their patrol car and returned fire.

Luckily, none of them was hit, but the still unidentified shooters got away.

Superintendent Warren G. Tolito, PPO director, was instructed by Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2) Regional Director Jose Mario M. Espino to investigate the incident and lend support to the Solana Municipal Police Station (MPS).
