KOREAN AMBASSADOR LEADS INAUGURATION OF VSU TOLOSA CAMPUS PROJECT
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Philippines Han DongMan led the inauguration of the reconstruction and strengthening of the Visayas State University (VSU) Tolosa Campus Project last June 1, 2018 in the Municipality of Tolosa, Leyte Province.
The Korean government through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), as part of its post-Yolanda rehabilitation assistance to the Philippines, has donated $4M for the construction of a state-of-the-art administration and dormitory buildings.
The 3-floor administration building has offices, library, cafeteria, computer room, and 16 classrooms while the dormitory can accommodate 240 students. Adequate office and school equipment for lectures, administrative works and the dormitory such as office furniture, computers, projectors, beds, and bookshelves were also provided by KOICA.
Also in attendance were KOICA Country Director Shin Myung Seop, CHED OIC Chairperson Prospero De Vera, Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico L. Petilla, VSU President Edgardo E. Tulin Ph.D., CHED Deputy Executive Director Napoleon B. Imperial Ph.D., Palo Mayor Remedios L. Petilla, Tolosa Mayor Erwin C. Ocaña, and VSU Tolosa Dean Obdulia Camoying Ph.D.
Ambassador Han Dong-Man has high hopes for this project would strengthen the role of VSU Tolosa in higher education as well as facilitate sustainable and efficient operation of the school through the provision of suitable learning and housing facilities.
“This is our way to show our gratitude to the Philippines and its people because you have never left us when we were in great devastation after the Korean War. When we had nothing, you were there to help us wholeheartedly. You were there to inspire us to continue dreaming a better future,” Ambassador Han said.
