Sara to dad Digong: It’s all because of you

- By ARGYLL B. GEDUCOS

Davao City Mayor Sara DuterteCarpio said if not for her father President Duterte's rigidity, she would not have been what she is today.

In her message for the country's father a day before Father's Day, Carpio thanked the President for raising her with rigidity and for pushing her to do well even now that she is mayor of Davao City.

She said that the President told her that working for the country will make her become more of a human being.

“Dear Digong, You were hard on me about education and work. You impressed upon me that I am not a person if I am not a lawyer or a doctor and if I do not work for our country,” she said.

“I am grateful for the rigidity. I would not be where I am now if I did not have you as a father and my Mama,” she added.

Carpio then went on to admit that she inherited some of her father's notable characteristics.

“I have your twisted sense of humor and the drive to achieve and these are some of my useful tools as I navigate life. Thank you. Happy Father’s Day!” she said.

In a separate video message, Carpio also thanked the President for being the way he is.

“Thank you for being who you are because I am who I am and where I am now and I have all these values because of you and my mommy. Happy Father's Day!” she said.

Duterte is dad to four children. Carpio, former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, and Sebastian are his children with former wife Elizabeth Zimmerman. His fourth child is Veronica with his partner Honeylet Avanceña.

Last year, Malacañang urged the public to honor their fathers on their day.

“Let us take time on Sunday and greet all fathers a Happy Father’s Day. Fathers have always been our guiding hand. Say thank you and tell your father how wonderful he is,” Malacañang said.
