Luis Manzano on his two dads and the art of hosting
Luis Manzano is one of the funniest guys in show business. He has always been a natural comedian with ability to poke fun at any situation.
Talking to Bulletin Entertainment, Luis said he got this side of himself from his dad, Edu Manzano.
“Ever since, if people think I’m funny… well a great basis for my humor is because I watched my dad. And I also try to pattern my humor from my dad.”
Apart from Edu, Luis admires Bayani Agbayani’s comedic skills. “I’m a fan of him,” was how he put
it. “Sa totoo lang, ’yung humor ko pinapattern ko rin sa kanya kasi sobrang galing ng timing niya sa comedy, samahan mo pa ng mga kakaibang facial expressions. So nakakatuwa lang talaga.”
Dads’ day
Luis treats his father Edu and step dad Ralph Recto like barkada but without losing respect.
“We really have good bonding moments, good relationships. Nasasabi ko sa kanila
anything and everything pero kahit barkada (ang turingan namin), hindi nawawala ’yung respeto kasi ’yun ang mahalaga sa lahat,” he explained. “Kumbaga nagbibiruan kami pero hindi ’yung sobra na parang binabastos ko na sila.” It’s Father’s Day. Any plans? “Not sure. He’s (Edu) always out of the country. Pero siguro dinner lang, sana malabas namin siya ni Jessy (Mendiola, his girlfriend),” he said. Luis added he wants to inherit Edu and Ralph’s “pagiging makatao.” “I see how they deal with people and for me, that’s precious. Sobrang positive nilang makitungo sa ibang tao at bilang anak, gusto kong maging ganu’n din ako, kumbaga ’yung walang pinipiling trabaho, edad… pwede akong makipagkwentuhan, pwede akong makipag-kaibigan,” he said.
Good Samaritan
Whenever he has free time, Luis watches a film or two. “We are always around with so many people every day. Paminsan-minsan ’di ba, you also have to enjoy a quiet time na nasa kama lang, tahimik,” he said. He’s into actionsci-fi genres but around Jessy, rom-com it is. “Siya masusunod eh,” the actor said, laughing. His favorite films are “Interview With The Vampire,” “I Am Sam,” and “Logan.” Luis has been doing mostly hosting jobs in the past months. Doesn’t he miss acting? “I am much better as host,” he said. “Right now, I want to just focus on my strength. Though siyempre may miss factor din sa pag-arte because it’s an outlet eh. Pero sa hosting ako mas magaling at komportable so du’n muna ako.” Hosting gives Luis a sense of fulfillment especially when it also serves as a platform for him to help other people. “I really like talking to people. I like the proximity. I believe we are all on this earth to do something for other people kasi napakaselfish naman na mabuhay ka lang para sa sarili mo,” he said. “But we have to take note na kapag sinabing tulong, hindi lang siya about cash or sa mga bagay, it is all about, you know, listening to someone, talking to someone and that’s what I achieve through hosting.”
