Motorcycle-riding gunmen strike again
Two men, including a police officer assigned in Basilan, were injured in the latest attack by motorcycle-riding assailants in Caloocan City Sunday.
Investigators identified the victims as PO1 Allan Nocom, 43, assigned at the Basilan Police Provincial Office, and Joselito Son, 56, junk shop helper. Both are residents of Caloocan.
Case investigator PO1 Anthony Wanawan said Nocom was in Caloocan to attend a court hearing.
Initial investigation showed that the two men – Nocom and Son –were talking in front of a junk shop along Josefina Street in Barangay 117 around 5:30 p.m. when two masked men onboard a motorcycle fired shots at them.
Nocom sustained gunshot wounds in the neck and back while Son was hit in the left arm. They were brought to the Caloocan City Medical Center where they are currently recuperating.
Recovered from the scene were four empty shells of still unknown firearm.
According to Sr. Inspector Felipe Fermin Jr., city police investigation chief, they are now looking into old grudge as the possible motive behind the incident.
"Nocom's relatives told us that he had an enemy who is also a cop," Fermin said.
Police are now checking if there is a closed-circuit television monitoring near the area to help identify and apprehend the gunmen. (Kate Louise Javier)
