Teenage pregnancy
DAVAO CITY – The teenage pregnancy rate increased due to the non-conducive and irresponsive environment in educating the adolescents on sexuality, an official from the City Health Office (CHO) said on Monday. Jeff Fuentes, chief of the CHOs City Population, told a press briefing that many of the teenagers lacked access to the right information, services, and protective measures as the topic of sex was barely discussed in the community and even at home. He said the lack of discussion on sexuality put the children who are exposed to social media, at more risk of misinterpreting malicious contents, and of engaging in early sexual activities out of curiosity. “It is really the lack of information because the culture of this country is very different from other countries. Sex is taboo. Hindi pinaguusapan pero ginagawa (This is not being talked about but this is being done),” he added. (Antonio L. Colina)
