Tricycle ban stays except along Katipunan Avenue – MMDA
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the ban on tricycles on all major thoroughfares
in Metro Manila stays.
“Only tricycles traversing Katipunan Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City are covered by the lifting of the ban while the Quezon City local gov-
ernment is still looking for alternative routes that are safe for tricycles. This is based on an agreement made during a recent hearing of the House Committee on Metro Manila Development,” Undersecretary Jose Arturo Garcia, MMDA general manager, said.
But the tricycles can only use the outermost curb-side lane of Katipunan Avenue.
Garcia said the tricycle ban remains in effect along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), Commonwealth Avenue, Marcos Highway , Roxas Boulevard, Recto Avenue, Pres. Quirino Avenue, Araneta Avenue, Taft Avenue, SLEX, Shaw Boulevard, Ortigas Avenue, Magsaysay/ Aurora Boulevard, Quezon Avenue, A. Bonifacio Avenue, Rizal Avenue, Del Pan, McArthur Highway, and
other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.
To avoid overloading, the agency has assigned dispatchers at tricycle terminals to ensure that only four passengers – the driver and three passengers - board the vehicle.
The MMDA is implementing the tricycle ban on the basis of existing regulations (MMC Ordinance Number 6 Series of 1990 and MMDA Resolution Number 16-08 Series of 2016) prohibiting tricycles, pedicabs, “kuligligs” and pushcarts on all circumferential and radial roads in the metropolis.
A violation of the MMDA resolution by the drivers or owners of tricycles, pedicabs, “kuligligs” and pushcarts shall be meted a fine of 1500 or impounding of the transport vehicle for a period of three months.
