PH hosts Taiwan Healthcare Industry Trade Marketing 2018 with TAITRA
Last August 6, 2018, the Philippines hosted the 2018 Taiwan Healthcare Industry Trade Meeting, brought to the country through the efforts of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
This year’s Meeting’s theme was “Enjoy a healthier life with Taiwan medical services”, and highlighted the medical expertise of the elite community of practitioners in the country.
Taiwanese companies took the stage to share their experience and research on the topics of Taiwan healthcare and medical services, as well as medical technologies related to cancer Treatment and genetic testing.
Present in the event were doctors from 6 prestigious hospitals of Taiwan, namely MacKay Memorial Hospital, Kaohsiung Medical University ChungHo Memorial Hospital, Lee Women's Hospital, Royal 101 International Health Co.,Ltd, Taiwan Nobel Eye and Aesthetic Medical Group, and the National Taiwan University Hospital. There were also four featured health companies: Biotegy Corporation Ltd., Lite-Med Inc., ACT Genomics Co. Ltd. and,Healthcare Industry Development Association across the Strait all of whom presented their latest products and services.
In response to the Taiwanese government’s “New Southbound Policy”, TAITRA is promoting a medical and healthservice exchange program with other members oftheAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN). TAITRA will lead a trade mission to Philippines, aiming to establish a platform of cooperation that will addressissues on bilateral pharmaceutical certifications as well as new drug and medical equipment development, establishing medical referral platforms to assist patients who will come to Taiwan for medical treatment.
Taiwan’s medical services include special areas of specialization which have received international recognition which include liver disease (hepatitis, hepatoma), organ transplant processes, cardiac catheterization and cardiovascular surgery, minimally invasive surgery, craniofacial surgery, arthroscopy and joint replacement, andectogenesis (assisted reproductive medicine).
Alongside the growth of its medical and healthcare industries, Taiwan has been experiencing a major boom in the field of biotech, particularlyin the area of new drug development and advanced medical devices.
In 2016, Taiwan’s biotech industry market value was estimated at 30B USD (roughly 900 billion TWD), and will soon be valued at a trillion TWD as Taiwan becomes an integral part of the global biopharma industry chain.
Recent data has revealed that over 300 thousand overseas patients came to Taiwan for medical attention in 2016, one-fourth of whom came from Southeast Asia.
