Feast of St. Bartholomew

- By CHRISTINA I. HERMOSO

Roman Catholic honor today the memory of Saint Bartholomew (San Bartolome), one of the 12 apostles of Christ, and a martyr of the Christian faith.

Commemorative masses and a procession will be held at the San Bartolome Parish on Rizal Avenue, Malabon City, in solemn observance of the feast.

Festivities will also be held in Catbalogan, Samar; Magalang, Pampanga; Meycauayan, Bulacan; and in Nagcarlan, Laguna.

Known in the Holy Gospel as Nathaniel, San Bartolome witnessed the Ascension of Jesus. Together with St. Jude, he introduced Christianity to Armenia during the first century hence, the two holy men are considered as the patrons of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

San Bartolome also preached in India, Mesopotamia, Iran, and Egypt and was able to convert thousands to Christianity.
