- By AARON B. RECUENCO

A 28-year-old man almost got himself devoured by a big crocodile while fishing in the river in Bataraza, Palawan, last weekend, the police reported yesterday.

Superintendent Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 4-B (PRO4-B), said Toto Ibrahim only survived when he fought off and eventually freed himself from the crocodile’s jaw Saturday night in Barangay Tabud, Bataraza.

“He was bitten in the right portion of his back and shoulder. But he was able to get away and seek assistance from fellow fishermen,” said Tolentino, adding that the victim was taken to the Rio Tuba Hospital for treatment.

Crocodile attacks are more common in the southernmost parts of Palawan which is home to saltwater crocodiles.
