Angkas to riders: Join us, serve more commuters
The app-based motorcycle taxi firm Angkas is inviting more riders to join its pool to serve more passengers and clients after Mandaluyong City Regional Trial Court Branch 213 Judge Carlos Valenzuela granted its appeal against a governmentordered shutdown.
“We are thankful for the court order and will continue to work with the government agencies to push for policies that will provide dignity and livelihood opportunities to millions of Filipino families who depend on motorbikes as their source of income,” Angkas said in a statement.
With Angkas back on the road, the transportation company called on motorcycle drivers who want to “earn a good living and learn the safety skills in carrying a passenger” to have themselves accredited.
“We will give out free training seminars and safety workshops as part of our firm commitment to professionalize motorcycle taxis and develop the highest safety standards for drivers in the country,” Angkas stated.
Angkas said that the riding public will be able to experience once again their “swift, safe, and affordable rides to and from their destinations.”
In a statement released Thursday, the ride-hailing firm said that the new development also means restoration of lost livelihood opportunities to some 17,000 of Angkas’ driver-partners.
In November 2017, the Department of Transportation and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board ordered Angkas to cease operations for violating Republic Act No. 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Under Section 7, private vehicles, private trucks, and private motorcycles, scooters, or motor wheel attachments “shall not be used for hire under any circumstances and shall not be used to solicit, accept, or be used to transport passengers or freight for pay.”
