A total of 2,169 erring police officers were dismissed from the service so far, while more than 5,000 others were meted with penalties that range from salary forfeiture to demotion as the Philippine National Police (PNP) intensified its anti-scalawag campaign.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said 100 police officers arrested by the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) since Febuary last year were among those dismissed from the service.

“This is part of our internal cleansing and organizational discipline,” said Albayalde, adding that that data is from 2016 to date.

Some of those dismissed were implicated in illegal drugs-related offesnes..

The rest were dismissed for various criminal activities.

Aside from those dismissd, a total of 4,133 others were suspended while 436 others were demoted.

Another 464 policemen were reprimanded, 151 were penalized with forfeiture of salary while 78 others were meted with minor penalities.

“As we have promised, this internal cleansing program will continue without letup until we completely achieve our desire for a highly professional and disciplined police force that truly deserves the trust and support of the people,” said Albayalde.

The PNP leadership has vowed to intensify the internal cleansing program after reports of involvement of police officers in various illegal activities, including drug protection racket.

Albayalde said there is no more reason for police officers to engage in illegal money-making activities since their salaries were significantly increased.
