Martin asked to comment on Regine’s transfer rumors

- (Report by Regina Mae Parungao)

Regine Velasquez-Alcasid’s alleged network transfer has been talk of the town for some time now. The rumors escalated after she attended the recently concluded ABS-CBN Ball with husband, Ogie Alcasid. Though she skipped the red carpet, she was seen inside the event venue posting for photos with some ABS-CBN executives.

Regine remains mum, neither confirming nor denying the issue even about another that claimed she will sign with ABS-CBN on Oct. 17.

Some of her close friends have expressed their support to her should she really pursue the matter. Among them is veteran singer Martin Nievera. Surprisingly, Martin told Bulletin Entertainment that he only learned of the transfer rumors when a reporter asked him about it on the night of the ball. “Wait, is it for real? I didn’t know that until you asked me,” he said, then quipped, “So, she’s the special guest then!” Martin said gaining Regine would be a “plus” for the network. “I’ll tell you something, the Kapamilya channel – ABS-CBN, has always been open to anyone and everyone. To gain Asia’s Songbird for me is a plus. It shows you how much this station is loved because let’s face it, she’s a queen where she is,” he explained. Martin was with GMA before moving to ABS-CBN. So, it will be a “reunion” of sorts between them if ever Regine jumps ship. Well, this is not the first time Regine has been embroiled in such intrigues. It was in 1998 when she joined GMA Network as a host on the defunct musical-variety show, “SOP.” In 2008, she was allegedly ready to sign up with ABS-CBN, but that did not push through.

It was in January 2016 when she inked a two-year exclusive contract with her home network. Thus, it can be presumed it will end this year.

Several reports circulated online, claiming the transfer is “sure,” and that Regine’s alleged first project on her “new” network is a coaching stint on “The Voice Of The Philippines.”

But remember, when Regine closed “The Clash” finale two weeks ago, at the height of the rumors, her closing spiel seemingly indicated she’ll remain Kapuso.

Both networks have remained silent on the issue as of this writing.

The plot thickens.

Back on track

Back to Martin, he made his late night TV comeback through a new show called “LSS: The Martin Nievera Show,” which airs on ANC.

On it, he gets up close, personal, and candid with the movers and shakers of the country, experiencing new adventures with them outside the studio.

“This new show is really very exciting because I’ll be asking my guests – businessmen, leaders, entrepreneurs, and celebrities – questions that the public want answered,” said Martin. “I’m going to be just like the people you mentioned: The fan, the spectator, or even the basher.”

Despite being known as a singer, recall that he charmed audiences in the ’90s with TV shows like “Martin After Dark” and “Martin Late @ Nite.”

As for future plans, he revealed he will be engaged in more charity event this Christmas. He is a regular performer on “ASAP.”
