Hope for Lupus
Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar may be a busy woman, but this has never stopped her from working for a cause as noble as dedicating her time to lupus awareness.
Em, wife to Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar and mother to threeyear-old Emma, was diagnosed with lupus at 25. Despite this, she keeps on fighting. Through her own journey with lupus, she realized that there are more people out there who are similarly situated, except that they may not be as fortunate as her.
This is why in 2015, she started a foundation called Hope for Lupus. It is dedicated to lupus awareness and to helping indigent patients suffering from the disease get proper diagnosis and treatment, as well as the emotional and mental support needed to deal with their situation.
“I realized that whatever reasons I had for hesitating to do this, to put up a foundation, was eclipsed by the need to help those who are more in need,”Em told the Manila Bulletin.
