Globe, MMDA to speed up 120 cell sites

Manila Bulletin - - Business -

Globe Telecom forged an agreement with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to speed up deploying over 120 cell sites along major roads in the heart of the metropolis to improve customers’ Internet experience. The agreement enables Globe to install small cell antennas along major thoroughfares, including EDSA, Roxas Boulevard, C5, and Congressional Avenue. “Securing various permits for the construction of telco infrastructure such as cell sites has long been a major challenge of the industry,” noted Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu during the signing of the agreement with MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim at the telco’s headquarters in Taguig City. Now, Globe can put up cell sites without going through the regular circuitous approval process, taking an average of 25 permits from local government units (LGUs) and eight months to secure.
