Jose Rizal, Mapua look to make most out of season

Jose Rizal University (JRU) and Mapua seek to end the season on a high note when they tackle separate foes today in NCAA men’s basketball at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Bombers clash with the College of St. Benilde Blazers at 2 p.m. while the Cardinals square off with the Arellano Chiefs at 4 p.m. in their final eliminatio­n assignment­s.

Though already out of the Final Four race a few weeks back, JRU and Mapua are determined to make the most out of their season and improve their 3-14 and 5-12 win-loss records.

The Bombers, in particular, gun *San Beda *Lyceum *Letran *Perpetual CSB Arellano Mapua SSCR EAC JRU *– Final Four for rare back-to-back wins as they are coming off an 81-78 triumph over the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals last Friday.

Jed Mendoza is expected to lead JRU after a career-high 26 points in their previous game, while support is also set to come from JP Magullano and Darius Estrella.

St. Benilde, for its part, will not make it easy for JRU as it also seeks a respectabl­e exit after getting eliminated from semis contention with an 8-8 mark at fifth place.

After this match, the Blazers will face the Letran Knights next week for their last game in the season.

In the other pairing, Mapua tries to bounce back from an 86-64 defeat from San Sebastian with Warren Bonifacio leading the squad.
