Sheryl- Romnick reunion brewing

- MOVIEGOER NESTOR CUARTERO

JUST A THOUGHT: ‘In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.’

OFFER WITH ROMNICK: Before flying to Tokyo the other day for an endorsement activity, Sheryl Cruz informed me that she recently got an offer to co-star with former loveteam partner Romnick Sarmenta in a project.

Curiously, the offer came in the wake of news that Romnick and wife Harlene Bautista have ended their marriage.

Romnick himself is once more active as actor. He plays a key antagonist role on “Halik,” which he does so well.

Developed as a matinee idol in his time, Romnick plays it contravida for the first time on the show, whose other standout actor is Jericho Rosales.

It will be of great interest to the fans of Romnick and Sheryl to see them together again, either on a drama series or in a movie. As a loveteam on and off screen in the ’90s, Romnick and Sheryl scored a number of victories at the box office (“Puso Sa Puso,” “Langit At Lupa,” etc.).

They were, in their time, the counterparts of today’s Kathryn and Daniel, Liza and Enrique, James and Nadine, Joshua and Julia.

In an even earlier timeline, the loveteams between Nora and Tirso, Vilma and Edgar, Esperanza and Eddie, Perla and Romy, Carmen and Rogelio, Amalia and Romeo, Susan and Eddie, Ricky and Rosemarie.

Oh, enough.

FACE OF JAPAN: Between teleserye assignments (her last was GMA’s “My Guitar Princess”), Sheryl Cruz found her way to Tokyo, Japan to be the face of a Japanese recruitment agency.

Sheryl will be endorsing Life Convenience Co. Ltd. in its recruitment of foreign/domestic workers in Japan.

In agreement with Kazu Watanabe, president of PolyEast Records, the singer-actress is set to do a video for the company.

Last year, Sheryl included two Japanese songs in her latest album. She is busy promoting the re-released album, “Luzviminda – There’s No Place Like Home.”

The album is available on digital release through apps iTunes and Spotify.

RUNS FOR COUNCILOR: On another note, Sheryl Cruz has formalized her interest in entering government service, also known as politics.

On Oct. 16, she filed her candidacy for councilor of Manila, District 2, representing Tondo. The singer-actress belongs to the Cruz clan of said district whose ancestors were famed musicians, including Tirso Cruz, Sr. who formed the Orchestra that carried his name.

The senior Cruz is credited for having composed the presidential march titled “Mabuhay” still used today.
