Eerie but fun!
Halloween costumes and pumpkin baskets on toy store displays. Ghoul and mummy-themed candy on sale. Children excitedly discussing what they’re going to be on the most awaited night of the thirty-first, and which house gives out the best treats. These are the telltale signs that it is already October and it is Halloween night. Don’t miss out on the spooky celebrations and join in on the tradition of creepy-fying your crib.
Here are six creepy decorations to add to your home this Halloween:
01 Witch’s broom.
You can never go wrong with a witch’s broom simply propped against the wall on your front porch or hanging as an eyecatching centerpiece. The best thing about this decoration is if you don’t feel like spending money on anything storebought, it’s super easy to make it yourself! Just get an old broom, scour the internet for some witchy designs, and craft away. Bonus points if you add a black cat!
02 Bones and skeletons.
If fake severed hands or fake blood is a bit too gory for your tastes, plastic bones and skeletons might be a safer choice! Paint them, prop them up, string them up and hang them, use them as centerpieces – the possibilities are endless. Let your creepy creativity run wild!
03 Silhouette bat decals.
Get your creepy crafty on and cut out your own silhouette bat decals! Stick them on your walls or windows and put on eerie colored lights at night to amp up the spook factor. You can get extra creative and cut out silhouettes of trees and a blood-red half-moon. There’s tons of these tutorials online that could inspire you!
04 Cobwebs and spiders.
Nothing screams spooky more than spiders. Stick some fake cobwebs on your windows and front door -- hide a few plastic spiders in there for good measure. If you don’t feel like buying these decorations from a store, an easy substitute would be pulled-apart cotton and spiders cut out from paper. Just make sure to clean the webs from time to time; otherwise you might find real spiders crawling all over!
On that note, if you don’t feel like possibly inspecting your decorations for actual bugs, cobweb and spider decals work just as well!
05 Ghosts.
Whether it’s DIY ghost decals or a white sheet thrown over some vaguely ghost-looking figure – ghosts are a surefire way to get in with the season of Halloween. You can even play eerie sound effects on speaker for added creepiness – but maybe not too creepy, if you have or you know very young children will be coming over.
06 Carved pumpkins.
A carved pumpkin or two sitting by your front door or as a dining table centerpiece might just be the quintessential symbol of the scariest time of the year. If you don’t have the time or the talent to carve a real one there are plenty of affordable plastic carved pumpkins out there. If you want to go for something a little less traditional and a little more modern, stringing up pumpkin lanterns or lights might fit your aesthetic better!
