Vice Ganda: Calvin makes me happy

- — JONAS TERRADO

It seems that Calvin Abueva and Vice Ganda have taken their friendship to a whole new level.

Such was an indication Friday night when the popular It’s Showtime host on social media expressed his support for Abueva, whose Phoenix Fuel Masters absorbed a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Meralco Bolts in the PBA Governors' Cup quarterfinals Friday night.

“You’re the BEAST! And for me you’re the BEST!,” Vice Ganda tweeted after watching Abueva's game from the first row of the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Abueva had earlier taken off his red Phoenix jersey after the game and handed it over to Vice Ganda, who responded by giving the star forward a kiss on the cheek.

Many have speculated as to whether the two have developed a romantic relationship since photos of them being together surfaced online last September.

While denying that they are an item during a TV interview with Boy Abunda last week, Vice Ganda also bared that Abueva “makes me happy.”

“Hindi kasi siya nahihiya na makita ng mga tao na malapit kami sa isa'tisa dahil naniniwala siya na walang mali,” Vice Ganda told Abunda.

Vice Ganda was accompanied by fellow It’s Showtime hosts Karylle and Ryan Bang when he watched Abueva play for the third time.

The three celebrities were visibly animated during the game, with Karylle even wearing a black Calvin Abueva shirt to show his support.

At one point, the three wildly celebrated Abueva's basket that cut Meralco's lead to 102-100 in overtime. The Fuel Masters, however, fell short in the end.

Abueva struggled from the field, making just 4-of-18 shots for 10 points. That disappointment, however, may have been eased with Vice Ganda's comforting words.
