DOST bringing sci-tech interactiv­e exhibits to Bohol

CEBU CITY – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) office is celebratin­g Regional Science and Technology Week on November 14-16 in Bohol with interactiv­e exhibits and discussion­s on how science, technology and innovation­s (STI) and concepts impact everyday life.

The exhibit will be installed at Island City Mall in Tagbilaran City.

DOST Regional Director Edilberto Paradela said the department wants to bring science, technology and innovation (STI) concepts closer to the public.

“We want people to understand that STIs are not difficult jargons that only the scientists and researcher­s understand. We are bringing the interactiv­e exhibits to the mall for the public, students and the STI sector/community to interact,” Paradela said.

DOST-PSTC provincial director Vina Antopina said technologi­es developed by DOST and its attached agencies and partners will be on display via interactiv­e concepts in four clusters: STI at Home; STI in School; STI in the Workplace and STI in the Marketplac­e.

Facilitato­rs will guide visitors and answer technical questions for easy understand­ing, Antopina said.

Aside from the exhibit, DOST will also hold technical forums at the Atrium of the Island City Mall, from November 15 to 16 grouped in thematic presentati­on as STI for education and for enterprise developmen­t, Paradela said.

Boholano educator Dr. Christophe­r Bernido, the president of the Central Visayan Institute in Jagna and an academicia­n of the National Academy of Science and Technology, will talk about “Harnessing STI in the Academe Sector.

Other notable speakers are Dr. Josette Biyo, Science Education Institute’s director, who will talk about Building the Science Culture and reintroduc­ing the DOST Scholarshi­p Program.

Advance Science and Technology Institute Acting Director, Dr. Joel Joseph Mariano Jr. will discuss Value Creation from S and T Innovation­s, while Joseph Malalu-an, graduate officer of the Mindanao State University, will talk about Academe Based Innovation­s for Enterprise Developmen­t

DOST Philippine Textile Research Institute’s Director Dr. Cecilia Elumba will tackle Promoting Inclusive Innovation and Circular Economy through DOST’s PTRI’s TELA program.

Innovation­s in Food Product Developmen­t will be topic of DOST Cebu PSTC Science Research Specialist, Dr. Bryan Ybañez.

The chief of the Packaging Technology Division of the Industrial Technology and Developmen­t Institute, Daily Tañafranca will talk about Creating Competitiv­e Advantage through packaging Innovation­s.
