ABS-CBN expands nationwide lead; GMA keeps urban dominance

ABS-CBN has again garnered the most number of viewers nationwide in November although rival GMA Network still holds the lead among the country’s viewers in urban areas.

According to data from Kantar Media, ABS-CBN said it registered an average audience share of 45 percent last month– maintainin­g its double-digit lead of 15 points against GMA, which recorded 30 percent.

For its part, GMA said the latest data from ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measuremen­t showed that it posted an average total day people audience share of 38.6 percent in the National Urban Television Audience Measuremen­t (NUTAM), which surpassed ABS-CBN’s 37.5 percent.

ABS-CBN also bolstered its lead in Mega Manila as it scored an average audience share of 37 percent, beating GMA, which slid by four points to 29 percent from the previous month’s 33 percent.

ABS-CBN also pulled away from its competitio­n in Metro Manila, where it secured 43 percent or a 20-point advantage against GMA’s 23 percent.

More households watched ABS-CBN in other territorie­s, including Total Luzon, where it tallied an average audience share of 40 percent against GMA’s 32 percent, in Total Visayas where it garnered 53 percent against GMA’s 24 percent, and in Total Mindanao where it hit 53 percent to GMA’s 26 percent.

ABS-CBN also topped the primetime block (6 p.m.-12 m.n.), where it reached an average audience share of 49 percent, or 19 points higher than GMA’s 30 percent.

The trend spilled over to all TV time blocks, as ABSCBN won the morning block (6 a.m. to 12 nn) where it gained 37 percent versus GMA’s 26 percent, in the noontime block (12 nn to 3 p.m.), where it scored 43 percent versus GMA’s 31 percent, and in the afternoon block (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.), where it got 45 percent versus GMA’s 32 percent.

Based on NUTAM, GMA said it registered 36.1 percent people audience share for the morning block, as against ABS-CBN’s 32.1 percent.

GMA also led in the afternoon block with 40.2 percent people audience share, beating ABSCBN’s 37.2 percent.

The Kapuso Network likewise dominated the viewerrich areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respective­ly account for 72 and 59 percent of all urban viewers in the country.

GMA posted an average total day people audience share of 44.1 percent in Urban Luzon, while ABS-CBN only managed to get 30.8 percent.

In Mega Manila, based on official data from November 1 to 24, the Network posted an average total day people audience share of 45.3 percent, which topped competitio­n’s 28.5 percent.
