JBC opens applications for SC vacancy
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Friday opened applications for a seat at the Supreme Court (SC) which was vacated upon the appointment of Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin.
The JBC announced that interested applicants have until January 22 to file their applications and requirements.
“The date of actual receipt by the JBC of the complete documentary requirements shall be deemed as the date of filing,” read the announcement signed by SC Clerk of Court and JBC Ex Officio Secretary Edgar Aricheta.
The qualifications of applicants shall be reckoned from the said deadline.
In the same announcement, the JBC said it has also opened applications for two seats at the Legal Education Board (LEB), particularly, the positions of chairperson and regular member.
The JBC noted the terms LEB Chairperson Emerson Aquende and regular member Zenaida Elepano will both end on January 13.
Bersamin took his oath as chief justice on November 28 after he was appointed by President Duterte on November 26.
Bersamin bested four other candidates in the shortlist for chief justice, namely,
SC Associate Justices Antonio Carpio, Diosdado Peralta, Estela Perlas-Bernabe and Andres Reyes Jr.
