Revilla: The Lord is on my side

- By ANTHONY GIRON

BACOOR CITY, Cavite - "I have said this on Day 1 and I will say it again this time. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?" former senator Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla Jr. said in his first public speech in his hometown Bacoor City in Cavite Monday morning, days after he was acquitted of plunder.

Meantime, the plunder trial of former Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, who like Revilla was linked to the ‘pork barrel scam,’ will finally begin, next year.

The 52-year-old Revilla said that God has been his strength and inspiration from Day 1 of his detention on June 20, 2014 until his release last December 7 after he was acquitted by the Sandiganbayan of plunder in connection with the R10 billion’pork barrel scam’.

"I went through with all these (referring to the trials at the anti-graft court and the difficulties in jail), I was away from my family, all my loved ones, I lost my time and days with them but still I continue to strive because I know that I have done nothing wrong and that the Lord is on my side," Revilla said, drawing applause and cheers from people at the jam-packed Strike Gymnasium at the Bacoor City Hall.
