Coco Martin promises ‘new recipe’ in MMFF 2018 entry D-1
Coco Martin assures his Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) movie “Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles” co-starring Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza is not merely an extension of his hit series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” which also has cops as central characters.

“We thought of a new recipe for our audience,” he said in Filipino. “This movie has a good story, a good narrative too.”
He admits that as far as the comedy in the movie goes, Vic and Maine take the lead and that “they’re the ones guiding us.”
Actually, that’s one of the biggest strengths of the movie: A fresh combination of stars that come from rival TV networks.
“And we also have Sen. Lito Lapid as our fight director to make sure that the action scenes are really executed well.”
‘Starstruck’
Coco has always been a fan of Vic so working with him for the first time sent shivers down his spine.
“I quiver when I see Bossing Vic on the set,” he said. “I get starstruck all the time.”
He confirmed what other people say of Vic, that he’s usually quiet on the set.
“His presence is different so it would make you nervous if you don’t know him,” he said.
Once Vic gets into a conversation with you, though, he’ll have you at the first joke.
As for Maine, his leading lady, the action star learned she is game with anything.
“She reminds me of the time I was doing indie films in that we make do with what’s available,” he said.
“Maine doesn’t complain when she is told to ride a motorcycle even if it might be dangerous. She has no qualms, doesn’t complain. No wonder she is loved by her fans.
“I asked her once, ‘You want to be a director, too?’ It is because even if you don’t teach her, she knows her angle.”
There’s this one scene that truly got Coco impressed with Maine.
“We had to eat frogs but unlike me, she doesn’t eat them. Problem is, when we were shooting the scene, the frog was not cooked well and we needed to shoot several scenes. We could feel that the frogs used were kind of fresh so we were laughing during the scene. ‘Is it fresh?’ we asked her but she didn’t mind at all.”
Police-friendly
Coco assured the movie depicts policemen in a responsible light. Recall that a few weeks ago, “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” was involved in an issue with the Philippine National Police (PNP) as regards the story and some of the characters on the series. It’s since been resolved.
“They will be proud of what we show them to be – excellent and ideal.
“We’re considering the family that will watch the movie. We want to show good values. We are confident that when our policemen see this movie, they will be proud of their job.”
