DAVAO CITY – At least 27 passengers of a Davao Metro Shuttle bus were injured in a road accident that happened in the town of Mawab, Compostela Valley Province on Sunday afternoon, according to Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 spokesman Chief Insp. Jason Baria.

Baria said the report of Mawab Municipal Police Station disclosed that the incident happened in Barangay Malinawon at around 4 p.m., January 6, when the bus bound for Veruela, Agusan del Sur suddenly swerved out of control.

He said Danvic Camino, driver of the bus, which was travelling to Nabunturan from Tagum City, Davao del Norte, lost control after the brakes failed.

With the vehicle out of control, it fell into a drainage ditch by the road side.

Baria said the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management team immediately responded in the area brought some of the injured persons to the Davao Doctors Community hospital at Mawab, while some were rushed to Davao Medical Regional Center in Tagum City.

Baria said that, as of press time, all the victims only sustained minor injuries on the incident.

"As of now, wala pa na file-lan ng case kasi nasa hospital pa ang driver, then inaayos pa yung affidavit ng mga victim also (As of now, there is no case filed against the driver since he is still in the hospital, then we are still gathering the affidavits of the other victims also)," he said.

But he said, the bus company had earlier said it was willing to shoulder the hospital expenses of the victims.

In October last year, around 30 people were injured when two Davao Metro Shuttle buses collided in Tagum City.
