ABS-CBN dominates nationwide ratings

ABS-CBN topped all TV networks in urban and rural areas nationwide in 2018, gaining an average audience share of 45 percent for the whole year (excluding Holy Week) against GMA’s 32 percent.

Data from Kantar Media showed that, in 2018, ABS-CBN was the network of choice for Filipinos in Metro Manila, where it scored an average audience share of 42 percent versus GMA’s 26 percent.

ABS-CBN also started gaining ground last year in Mega Manila and capped off the year by registerin­g an average audience share of 36 percent versus GMA’s 34 percent.

It also scored huge ratings leads in other territorie­s, including Total Luzon, where it tallied an average audience share of 40 percent against GMA’s 35 percent, in Total Visayas where it garnered 53 percent against GMA’s 26 percent, and in Total Mindanao where it hit 52 percent against GMA’s 28 percent.

Among all time blocks, ABS-CBN gained the highest viewership in primetime (6 p.m. to 12Mn) with an average audience share of 49 percent from January to December 2018, leading GMA (32 percent) by 17 points.

ABS-CBN also won all time blocks in 2018, including the morning block (6 a.m. to 12 nn) where it gained 38 percent versus GMA’s 30 percent, in the noontime block (12 NN to 3 PM), where it scored 44 percent versus GMA’s 33 percent, and in the afternoon block (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.), where it got 43 percent versus GMA’s 35 percent.

Aside from radio and television, ABS-CBN has also become the leader in the local music, film, cable TV, and publishing industries and is also the pioneer of digital television in the country.
