Celebrities can’t resist taking on ‘Internet Challenge’

Celebrities can’t resist taking on

- By REGINA MAE PARUNGAO

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably heard (or even done it yourself) the latest viral challenge sweeping social media.

Called “Bird Box Challenge,” it is inspired by Netflix’s original horror film “Bird Box” released last December.

In it, Sandra Bullock (Melanie) and two children (Boy and Girl) must avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears in a post-apocalyptic world. Searching for hope and a new beginning, they embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they’ll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them – – and complete the trip blindfolded.

And, of course, in this social mediaobsessed world, the film has spurred memes. Many netizens have been uploading and sharing videos of themselves attempting to emulate the movie by wearing blindfolds, wandering around which, in some cases, has led to unpleasant consequences.

That is why Netflix has now urged viewers not to try the “Bird Box Challenge” in a bid to stop them ending “up in the hospital due to memes.”

On Twitter, the digital movie platform wrote: “Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end in the hospital due to memes.”

Recent years have seen the rise of many internet crazes which some of our local celebrities have participated in. Do you remember…

#InMyFeelings Dance Challenge

“In My Feelings” by Canadian artist Drake caught the attention of listeners who love the beat.

The challenge began when a popular Instagram user danced to the song and asked his followers to do the same.

Others, including celebrities, lev- eled up the game and started dancing beside a moving car. (The Department of Transportation (DOTr) discouraged the public from doing the challenge, asking: “Anong mas patok sayo? ’Yung MAKIUSO o ang KALIGTASAN MO?”) Among those who had their take on the dance craze is Kim Chiu. Her video uploaded on Instagram garnered 1, 164, 590 views. Then there’s Rocco Nacino with 22, 494 views; Iñigo Pascual and Donnalyn Bartolome with 171, 748 views; Ronnie Alonte with 869, 408 views; Bela Padilla with 1, 862, 973 views; and KC Montero with 593, 148 views.

#SpicyNoodle Challenge

If you have high tolerance for spicy food, maybe you could try this challenge.

Many people, even local celebrities, have been posting videos of themselves trying the “world’s spiciest instant noodles” manufactured in South Korea. AC Bonifacio and Awra Briguela have joined the bandwagon, with their
