Celebrities can’t resist taking on
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably heard (or even done it yourself) the latest viral challenge sweeping social media.
Called “Bird Box Challenge,” it is inspired by Netflix’s original horror film “Bird Box” released last December.
In it, Sandra Bullock (Melanie) and two children (Boy and Girl) must avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears in a post-apocalyptic world. Searching for hope and a new beginning, they embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they’ll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them – – and complete the trip blindfolded.
And, of course, in this social mediaobsessed world, the film has spurred memes. Many netizens have been uploading and sharing videos of themselves attempting to emulate the movie by wearing blindfolds, wandering around which, in some cases, has led to unpleasant consequences.
That is why Netflix has now urged viewers not to try the “Bird Box Challenge” in a bid to stop them ending “up in the hospital due to memes.”
On Twitter, the digital movie platform wrote: “Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end in the hospital due to memes.”
