This is an opportunity for us to learn more about each other, to discover new things that will help build our relationship stronger.

Barbie Forteza has two reasons for immediately accepting the “Kara Mia” project: Aside that the role puts her versatility to the test, she is paired with boyfriend

Jak Roberto.

They first worked together in the indie film “Laut,” but it’s only now they star on a show since becoming an item in

2017.

Bulletin Entertainment

caught up with Barbie and Jak at a press conference in Cebu, in line with the celebration of this year’s Sinulog Festival.

They revealed to have made an agreement to lessen their public display of affection (PDA) on set.

“This is the first time I’ll be working with my boyfriend and I’m kinda not used to it,” Barbie said. “I even told Jak, ‘Don’t feel sad if I don’t talk to you while we are on set.’ I just don’t want to get distracted.”

Jak is excited for fans to see their chemistry.

“This is also an opportunity for us to learn more about each other, to discover new things that will help build our relationship stronger.”

With Jak being “caring all the time,” Barbie couldn’t help but compare him to her father. And for him, well, there’s no better compliment than that.

“My dad treats my mom so well that you will know they really consider each other as the better half. And I’m thankful that Jak makes me feel the same way. We’re happy, we don’t have problems. We know how to handle each other, what else can we ask for?” she said.

Since Barbie is an award-winning actress, does she give Jak tips on the craft?

“Not really. He knows what to do

naman. Sometimes I just give him feedbacks or suggestions to improve his work.”

In a separate interview, Jak’s younger sister, Sanya Lopez, expressed happiness for the two. She thanked Barbie for making her brother a “better man.”

Asked about her reaction should the two decided to get married, the “Cain At Abel” star smiled with excitement.

“Why not? If they are ready, then go. If they are already prepared for the married life, I will not stand in their way,” she said.

Back-to-back

Talking about “Kara Mia,” Barbie and Jak shared what fans could expect from it.

The series is about Kara (Barbie) and Mia (Mika dela Cruz) whose faces are divided in one body. Kara in the front, while Mia in the back. When they get older, they will discover a way on how to separate their face with its own body every morning, while going back to their original form at night.

According to Barbie, that condition has a scientific basis called Diprosopus.

On The Embryo Project Encyclopedia (https://embryo.asu.edu/),

Diprosopus is a congenital defect also known as craniofacial duplication. The exact description of diprosopus refers to a fetus with a single trunk, normal limbs, and facial features that are duplicated to a certain degree.

Barbie admitted the role is challenging for her and Mika. “We need to shoot scenes several times, like sometimes we walked backwards just to make it appear that Mika is really in my back. It’s physically draining but, at the same time, exciting because this is the first time a series tackles such a subject.”

Jak is Boni, the love interest of Kara.

The 25-year-old actor has gotten used to going shirtless onscreen. More of that here?

“Let’s see,” he grinned.

When the network released the trailer, “Kara Mia” has had the whole online community talking and laughing. Many netizens even created memes of Kara and Mia’s characters.

Barbie didn’t get offended at all, saying it helps promote the series.

“So, please continue creating memes!” he added.

Also in the cast are Paul Salas, John Estrada, Carmina Villaroel, Glydel Mercado and Gil Cuerva.

Directed by Albert Langitan, “Kara Mia” is set to premiere in February on GMA’s Telebabad lineup.
