Go assists f ire victims; opens 22nd Malasakit Center in GenSan
SOUTH COTABATO - Officials of a barangay in General Santos City surprised former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) and senatorial candidate Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go with a certificate to formally thank him for the assistance he has extended to fire victims in the village.
The officials of Barangay Dadiangas South gave the Certificate of Recognition to Go during the launching of the Malasakit Center at the Dr. Jorge P. Royeca Hospital in Fernandez Street, Barangay Lagao, General Santos City.
The Malasakit Center in General Santos City is the 22nd in the Philippines.
Go stressed saying this is part of his commitment that he will serve the people even as a private citizen.
“Huwag na po kayo magpasalamat. Trabaho po namin ito,” he added.
Go visited Barangay Dadiangas South and gave assistance to the victims of the fire that broke out on December 28, 2018 and destroyed more than 100 houses, left 200 families homeless, and caused property damage amounting to about PHP 500,000.
In an ambush interview, Go noted that among the fire victims, at least 59 families have decided to avail of the government’s relocation program. The National Housing Authority has promised to look into the housing needs of the fire survivors.
Meanwhile, Bong Go mentioned that he went to General Santos City to witness the launching of the Malasakit Center which brings under one roof all concerned government agencies.
While the institutionalization of the Malasakit Center is the centerpiece of Go’s health program, he is also proposing the increase in the funding of public hospitals to improve bed capacity, hike the salary of nurses, and provide better compensation to barangay health workers.
