QCPD receives new body cams, handcuffs
At least 300 body-cameras and 3,000 new handcuffs were distributed by the Quezon City government to the local police force in a bid to strengthen its fight against criminality and illegal drugs.
Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista led the turnover ceremony of the brand new equipment to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) through its director, Chief Superintendent Joselito Esquivel Jr.
Esquivel underscored the importance of the body cameras and handcuffs especially for the daily anti-criminality and anti-illegal drug operations.
He added that this was the first time that the Quezon City police were issued body cams.
“These brand new acquisitions will again put the QCPD a step ahead of other PNP units in terms of logistics and mobilization,” he said during the turnover ceremony at the Quezon City Hall on Wednesday morning.
According to Bautista, the equipment will also help the local police to hunt down killers following the ambush of Barangay Bagong Silangan chairwoman and Congressional bet Crisell Beltran last week.
Beltran was attacked by four gunmen on two motorcycles while riding her sports utility vehicle with her driver and three other companions at J.P. Rizal Street in Barangay Bagong Silangan.
“Dito maraming assassins and I think we should go after them. It is unfortunate na nagkaroon tayo ng isang insidente dito. This is the first time na a Quezon City politician running for Congress ang naging biktima ng mga assassins na ito,” Bautista said in an interview after the event.
“Napakaraming assassins sa Quezon City and we know where they are. And if we go after them the soonest possible time, then we would have accomplished a lot already,” he added.
Meanwhile, the QCPD chief said it will prioritize the distribution of the body cameras to various checkpoints across the city, to traffic officers, as well as for special operations for transparency.
