Poisonous jellyfish in Boracay

- By TARA YAP

ILOILO CITY – Tourists at worldfamous Boracay Island have been warned of the presence of poisonous jelly fish.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) of Malay in Aklan province recently issued an advisory on the presence of the Blue Bottle Jellyfish species.

This was after the Malay Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Malay MENRO) confirmed that the jellyfish washed ashore in the eastern coast of the resort island and along the more secluded Puka Beach.

While there has been no sighting of the Bottle Jellyfish along Boracay’s famous stretch of front beach, both tourists and locals must be vigilant since the sting could be very painful.

“Never touch these creatures as their stingers are still active even if they are out of the water,” the Malay MDRRMC emphasized.

“If stung by this creature, kindly approach our deployed life guards along the beach,” the advisory added.
