FEU, UP claim hard-earned wins

Far Eastern University recovered from wasting a first set lead to defeat National University, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-12, in the start of the UAAP women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Tamaraws blew a 21-14 lead in the opening frame but were able to redeem themselves in the next three sets to begin their quest to bounce back from last season’s finals loss to the La Salle Lady Spikers with a victory.

FEU also capitalize­d on the injury of NU setter Joyme Cagande, who sprained her left knee in the third set.

In the other game, University of the Philippine­s survived University of the East, 25-12, 2225, 23-25, 25-19, 25-12.

Isa Molde and Tots Carlos delivered the goods for the Lady Maroons, who rose from a 2-1 deficit en route to the hardearned win.

Molde erupted for 23 points built on 19 kills, two blocks and two aces while Carlos sizzled with 17 points including 15 attacks.

In the men’s division, FEU sent an early signal in its title bid Saturday when it stunned defending champion NU, 25-12, 25-18, 25-17.

The Tamaraws won by forcing the Bulldogs to 32 errors.

Meanwhile, La Salle launches its bid for a fourth straight title today against archrival Ateneo at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Lady Spikers are out to prove their worthy status as team to beat in the 4 p.m. clash with the Lady Eagles side which will now be handled by coach Oliver Almadro.
