La Salle survived the third-set challenge of National University in posting a 25-10, 20-25, 27-25, 25-22 victory yesterday to remain unscathed in UAAP women’s volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.

After dropping an erratic second set, the Lady Spikers regained their composure and displayed championship experience in the crunch where they pulled away from a 17-all tie en route to the third-set triumph and, eventually, the match.

It was La Salle’s third straight win, cementing its hold of top spot.

May Luna and Tin Ogunsanya fueled the Lady Spikers with careerhigh 14 and 13 points, but it was Lourdes Clemente who set the tone for the Taft-based squad in the pivotal moments.

Clemente, a transferee from University of Perpetual Help, came off the bench in the third with crucial plays, including an ace that gave La Salle the set-point advantage, 24-23.

NU fought back with Princess Robles in front of its assault, but an attack error from Ivy Lacsina and an off-the-block spike from Luna keyed the win for La Salle.

Veteran Desiree Cheng also provided the spark for the defending champions with 12 points, all from attacks.

NU dropped its second loss in three matches despite Robles and Lacsina finishing with 18 and 16 points.
